PETER IREDALE SHIP WRECK

The wreck of the ship Peter Iredale lies on the beach in Ft Stevens State Park near Astoria Oregon. This was a four masted steel barque which ran aground on Oct 25, 1906. It is amazing that parts of the ship are still there. This ship sailed from Mexico and was headed to Portland OR with a crew of 27 when it ran aground. It was 285 ft long. All that remains today is the bow, some ribs seen in the first photo and a couple of mast mounts photo 3. The wooden mast would go in these steel mast mounts. If you go to Ft Stevens it is easy to find. Just go to Shipwreck Beach and it is a short walk from the parking lot. It is always interesting to see something survive this long in the elements.
