EASTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY TRYING TO SCREW RICHMOND KY OUT OF TAXES

The Eastern Kentucky University continues to try and avoid paying $250,000 in local taxes that they owe on the lease of the Grand Terrace apartments. The Grand Terrace apartments are privately owned but the University leased them. Since they are privately owned they owe the local taxes which support the library, education and other services. The University is trying to say they are exempt because it is state property. No it is leased property not owned by the University. The whole lease agreement on these apartments seem to be an under the table hand shake deal between a local politicians who just happened to be on the University President Selection Committee and President Benson. Funny how this was a privately managed housing complex until President Benson got hired. Word is this is a sweet heart deal for the Campus Terrace owners but not for the University which keeps raising fees on students. I guess everything is ok if you do your math by putting the costs on the back of the students. Too bad no one locally seems to want to research this whole boondoogle. The local Richmond Register is such a lousy newspaper that it is mainly good for using in the bottom of birdcages. Hey State Auditor where are you?
